Vermilion Cotillion
Before the bright vermilion
of this flaming, sunset sky
I stop to reminisce
the times I’ve spent with you.
Like an old vaudevillian
with a tear upon each eye,
I smile as I relive
each magic time we knew.
Fate throws us together
in stormy weather
to collide until our love grows.
In dreams we’ll last forever
though circumstance may
shake and crumble as the wind blows.
Beneath the grand cotillion
of this brilliant, starry night
I pause in retrospect
on times I spent with you
You’re one star in a billion
like a memory shining bright
upon each lost but not
forgotten day we knew.
The faith our hearts engender
feels no surrender
as the old familiar ways change
till time that great offender
swoops to render everything
we knew and loved strange.
So I’ll be dreaming of tomorrow,
remembering the past,
swaying as the winds blow
holding strong and fast.
When I take a moment
To reflect upon my life
There’s nothing better
Than those times I spent with you
Looking back in wonder
At the laughter and the strife
You know there’s nothing else
That I would rather do.
